Qualifications for a changing skills landscape.

Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are changing quickly, creating new skills needs across workplaces, industries and professions.

AIQQA is developing a portfolio of qualifications designed to respond to these changes with a focus on practical capability, clear standards and meaningful assessment.

What we are developing

A portfolio across AI and emerging technologies.

AIQQA is developing qualifications across artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.

Levels of knowledge and capability

We intend to develop qualifications at different levels of knowledge and capability, from foundation and practical workplace skills through to more advanced applications of AI and emerging technologies.

  • Our portfolio will focus on areas where there is a clear skills need and where formal recognition can provide genuine value to learners, employers and training providers.

  • The portfolio will develop over time as technology, employer needs and the wider skills landscape continue to change.

Designed around competence

Clear about what someone can do

We believe a qualification should make it clear what someone who achieves it is expected to know and, importantly, what they should be able to do. For each qualification, we will consider:

  • Skills and capability

The skills or capability the qualification is intended to develop.

  • Who it’s designed for

Who the qualification is designed for.

  • What learners should demonstrate

What learners should be able to demonstrate.

  • How competence is assessed

How that competence should be assessed.

Evidence of achievementWhat evidence is needed to support achievement.
Relevance to its purposeHow the qualification remains relevant to its intended purpose.

This approach helps us keep qualification design focused on meaningful outcomes rather than content alone.

Areas of focus

AI and the technologies around it.

AIQQA’s qualification portfolio will be developed around artificial intelligence and the emerging technologies that support, apply and govern it.

Our portfolio will be based on evidence of skills need and qualification purpose rather than introducing qualifications simply because a technology is new or attracting attention.

Helping learners develop the ability to use AI effectively in real situations and workplace contexts.

  • Developing understanding around safe, responsible and appropriate use of artificial intelligence.

  • Supporting individuals and organisations as AI becomes increasingly integrated into everyday working practices.

  • Developing qualifications around technologies and capabilities that are becoming increasingly relevant alongside AI.

  • Over time, the portfolio may also develop into more advanced areas where specialist knowledge, application and technical capability can be clearly defined and assessed.

Assessment

Assessment that reflects real capability.

Assessment is an important part of how AIQQA intends to distinguish its qualifications. Where appropriate, learners should have the opportunity to demonstrate that they can apply what they have learned rather than only recall information.

Depending on the qualification, assessment may consider:

  • Practical application
  • Problem solving
  • Judgement
  • Understanding
  • Using technology effectively

The assessment approach will always depend on the purpose and level of the individual qualification.

Keeping qualifications relevant

Standards that keep pace with change.

AI and emerging technologies can change much faster than traditional qualification cycles.

AIQQA intends to build regular review and industry engagement into the development of its qualifications so that standards can remain connected to changing technology and workplace requirements.

Regulation

Working towards regulated qualifications.

AIQQA is working towards recognition by Ofqual as an awarding organisation. As part of this process, we are developing the systems, governance, quality arrangements, assessment controls and organisational capability needed to develop and award regulated qualifications.
